If you want to improve your photography skills, it is important to look at the subject matter of photography. As long as you have a pair of “photographic eyes”, you will improve a lot in composition skills and storytelling skills. Here are 5 ways to train your photography eyes.
(1) Use Only one Focal Length
By using a focal length, you can no longer use the zoom to easily change the composition you want to shoot. You have to work hard to find the subject and angle of the shooting yourself. This can effectively make you think outside the box then shoot better photos. Usually using a prime lens is a good choice, but if you don’t have one, you can use tape to fix the focal length of the zoom lens to shoot.
(2) take black and white photos
In the color world, color is easy to be distracting. If you can remove the color and take black and white photos, the patterns and points in the environment will be easier to discover. Over time, you can naturally “see” what is worth shooting. It’s up!
(3) Find Textured Patterns
Another training that is very useful for photographic eyes is to find texture patterns. If you look carefully, you will find that the surrounding area is also full of beautiful geometric figures or textures. Using the fill composition method can record them well. You can also add other compositions such as diagonal lines or photo frame composition, which is an easy and effective training method.
(4) Use of Lines
Just like a bit of texture, finding lines can make your photography eye more advanced. As long as you take a closer look, each photo is also a combination of lines, lines and arcs are full of photos, their characteristics can refer to:
- Horizontal Line: It gives a sense of balance and calmness;
- Diagonal Line: full of vitality;
- Vertical Line: Between the above two;
- Curved Line: It’s more relaxing and smooth, and it is better to match the composition of the photo frame.
(5) Try “Leave Blank”
Ink paintings that are left blank in China are common, but it takes more practice to use them properly! Although filling composition can effectively enhance tension, sometimes proper white space can make photos full of fantasy space, and the artistic sense is stronger.
I hope that after reading this article, students can implement the above training methods, which will be good for your photography skills!
